1. HONOR’s Evolution in AI
According to a study conducted by PwCii , AI is predicted to contribute up to $15.7 trillion to the global economy in 2030. Having recognized this major trend, HONOR has recently launched the ultimate AI smartphone camera for the HONOR View20. The device leverages the AI computing power and graphic processing power enabled by the dual-ISP and dual-NPU of the Kirin 980 chipset to collate the essence of multiple photos taken by the world-first 48MP rear camera (powered by the Sony IMX586 sensor) and create a 48MP AI ultra-high-definition image.
Over the years, HONOR has stunned the world with a succession of AI breakthroughs. In December 2016, HONOR launched the HONOR Magic, the first phone in the industry to feature an AI system “Magic Live” in a smartphone, to verify the ecosystem and learn how to collaborate with companies and help design apps for the cloud. A year later, HONOR took it to the next level and incorporated an AI chipset, the Kirin 970, into the HONOR View10, enabling powerful scene recognition and self-learning capabilities. Also equipped with the same AI chipset, the HONOR 10 features a dual-lens AI 2.0 camera and an industry-first Semantic Image Segmentation technology that can recognize 500+ scenarios in 22 categories in real-time.
HONOR continually packs ground-breaking hardware and software upgrades in its smartphones to deliver a seamless performance for consumers. HONOR equipped the latest flagship Honor View20 with Link Turbo, which leverages AI and big data to automatically analyze users' usage behavior and network conditions. This allows them to switch seamlessly between Wi-Fi or 4G networks and boost downloading speed by adopting both networks simultaneously.
Additionally, HONOR released a series of high-end technology last year. The GPU Turbo, launched in June 2018, is a revolutionary hardware-software integration solution that dramatically increases the graphics processing power by 60% while reducing SoC (System on Chip) energy consumption by 30%. HONOR also launched the Liquid Cooling System, which is equipped with a nine-layer thermal design and a PC-grade liquid cooling pipe. It delivers 41% increase in heat dissipation and up to 10°C reduction in CPU temperature for handsets.
HONOR prioritizes the design of its products for both functionality and aesthetics. HONOR View20 is the perfect combination of both. The HONOR View20 comes with HONOR’s brand-new screen technology, All-View Display, which features a world-first, in-screen front camera design, and a vivid and dynamic V-shape color gradient design enabled by nanolithography technology.
HONOR has been leading the race to true full-view display from the very beginning, ever since adopting the 18:9 bezel-less screen for the HONOR 7X and the HONOR View10 in 2017. Not long after, Honor launched the Honor 10 with notched screen, further expanding the display area.
HONOR has dominated the stylish smartphone design space ever since it introduced the element of colors to smartphones with HONOR 8’s Sapphire Blue in 2016 and HONOR 9’s Glacier Grey in 2017. Then, HONOR went beyond solid colors and launched the HONOR 10 and the HONOR 10 Lite in ever-changing and flowing gradient colors, as well as the HONOR 8X that features a double texture.
1. Kirin 980
Kirin 980 is the world's first 7nm process mobile phone SoC chipset, the world’s first cortex-A76 architecture chipset, the world’s first dual NPU design, and the world’s first chipset to support LTE Cat.21.
The Kirin 980 integrates 6.9 billion transistors in an area of less than 1 square centimeter which is a 1.6x fold increase in density to empower better performance. This chipset is the first Cortex-A76 based in the world and has a 75% improvement in single core performance. The Kirin 980 also includes the world’s first commercial use Mali-G76 GPU performance is improved by 46%.
The Kirin 980 7nm process technology compared with the 10nm process, improves performance by 20%, power efficiency by 40% and the overall energy efficiency of the Kirin 980 increased by 58%.
The Kirin 980 is built with a 3 energy efficiency architecture which has 2 super cores, 2 large cores and 4 small efficiency cores and uses the Flex-Scheduling intelligence mechanism to allow the CPU to adapt in heavy, medium, and light-load scenarios by reducing its power consumption and giving users a longer battery life while still achieving an overall higher performance experience.
The Kirin 980 is the first to support LTE Cat.21 which supports the fastest downlink at 1.4 Gbps and offers a stable connection in congested areas like subways or high-speed rails.
Kirin 980 can quickly adapt to AI scenes such as face recognition, object recognition, object detection, image segmentation, and intelligent translation with the power of a dual-core NPU achieving 4,500 images per minute which is an improved 120% recognition speed. So whether it's dancing to a fast song or quickly running in front of the camera, the Kirin 980 can focus on the joints and lines of the human body in real time.
2. GPU Turbo
A graphics processing unit (GPU) is a specialized electronic circuit designed to rapidly manipulate and alter memory to accelerate the creation of images in a frame buffer intended for output to a display device.
At the end of July 2018, HONOR has rolled out the GPU Turbo update to a handful of its current smartphones such as the HONOR 10.
GPU Turbo is a hardware-software GPU acceleration technology. Essentially, it turbocharges the phone's GPU performance, turning the mid-range smartphone into a gaming powerhouse, without needing to upgrade the physical hardware. When the update lands it will see GPU performance increase by up to 60%, while also seeing battery consumption drop by 30%.
In addition to higher frame rates, fantastic graphics, turbocharged GPU performance and lower battery consumption, HONOR phones with the GPU Turbo update will also run cooler. Phones won't overheat despite the GPU enhancement and much more demanding visual load. As games become increasingly graphics-intensive, GPU Turbo is an absolute must to ensure the phone can keep up with even the most demanding titles available on the Play Store.
HONOR has released its latest flagship, the HONOR View20. In addition to the amazing TOF 3D camera that has paved the way for various 3D functions on a handset device, another amazing camera feature of this new model is its 48 effective megapixels, the industry's highest pixel count to date brought to life by SONY's IMX586 Stacked CMOS image sensor.
SONY's IMX586 Stacked CMOS image sensor maximise the resolution of images to 48 megapixels (8,000 x 6,000 pixels), thus making this the sensor with the highest pixel count among smartphone sensors. IMX586 offers the world’s smallest pixel size of 0.8 μmm thus making it possible to cram in as much as 48 effective megapixels inside a 1/2-type unit. That many pixels indicate that a smartphone with an IMX586 sensor will be able to capture pictures with high saturation levels and sensitivity.
Thanks to the high pixels count, combined with the 3D TOF camera for faster low-light autofocus and more accurate edge detection when shooting in portrait mode, HONOR View20 has once again set a new benchmark in mobile photography.
The 48MP camera has been designed to take advantage of the cutting-edge Kirin 980 chipset and create an innovative photography mode: 48MP AI Ultra Clarity. When this mode is enabled, the HONOR View20 takes multiple shots with just one push of the shutter and uses the image processing capability of the Kirin 980's dual-ISP to synthesize the best parts of each shot into one final photo.
This final product will then be comprehensively analyzed by the Kirin 980's dual-NPU, with an advanced AI algorithm in operation to optimize color reproduction, minimize overexposure in excessively bright regions, and restore details in the shadows.
That's why the HONOR View20 designers call it ''Ultra Clarity'', as the final image actually outperforms even the standard 48MP picture.
The photo above was taken in 48MP AI Ultra Clarity mode. If we zoom in on the top of the Eiffel Tower, which is 312 meters above the ground (i.e. that far from the photographer), the details are truly still clear.
4. Fast Charging
Generally, HONOR phones are all with battery above 3000mAh, which can support a whole day’s normal usage.
HONOR 8 Pro, HONOR Play and HONOR View10 are the smartphones with the long-life batteries of above 3750mAh. Usually these battery can support more than 1.5-day heavy usage. They are the best in battery life, and in addition, they also support SuperCharge with the help of Smart Power.
